The Upper Dolpa region is located in the western part of Nepal and is one of the most remote regions in the country. The region is home to the Shey Phoksundo National Park and offers stunning natural scenery, including the deepest lake in Nepal, Phoksundo Lake.

Trekking in the Upper Dolpa region typically takes around 18 to 22 days and involves crossing several high passes, including the Kang La pass (5,360 meters) and the Jeng La pass (5,110 meters). The trek starts from the town of Juphal and follows the Dolpo trail, passing through traditional Tibetan villages, ancient monasteries, and beautiful landscapes.

The Upper Dolpa region is also home to the Dolpo people, who have their own unique culture and tradition. The Dolpo people are known for their ancient Bon religion, which is a blend of Tibetan Buddhism and the pre-Buddhist Bon religion.

In addition to trekking, the Upper Dolpa region also offers opportunities for mountaineering expeditions, including climbing the peak of Shey Phoksundo (6,750 meters). The region is also popular among nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts, with opportunities to spot rare species such as the snow leopard, Himalayan black bear, and musk deer.

Overall, the Upper Dolpa region is a beautiful and remote destination for trekking and exploring the unique culture and tradition of the Dolpo people. Trekking in the region requires a trekking permit from the Nepalese government and is best undertaken with an experienced guide or trekking company.
